Legacy and Alchemy presents the DONA IVONE LARA story ... in 15 chapters.
In December 2015 at the VISOM Studio in Rio de Janeiro, Dona Ivone Lara recorded her final performances. She recorded her classics: "Sonho Meu" and "Força da Imaginação" for Alexandra Jackson's "ALEXANDRA JACKSON: LEGACY & ALCHEMY" music album.
"Sonho Meu" pays homage to the first 100 years of Samba. The track features Pretinho da Serrinha and Max Viana (whose father Djavan previously recorded "Sonho Meu" with Dona Ivone), with American stars Chris Walker, Darryl Tookes and Curtis King on vocals.
"Força da Imaginação" (co-written by Caetano Veloso) launches the next 100 years of Samba. The track features Pretinho da Serrinha, Max Viana, Ricardo Silveira, Arthur Maia and Marcelo Mariano.
Both tracks were Produced with Robert Hebert for his Legacy and Alchemy LLC international music label.
The tracks were recorded by engineers: Ricardo Dias, Guido Pera, Luther Banks and Danny Leake, mixed by Grammy Award winning engineer Ed Cherney at his mix room at The Village in Los Angeles, and mastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman.
These final recordings reflect well on Dona Ivone's magical career in music.

The years of 1892 began with some unfortunate news for Ivone. Although Sorriso Negro was highly praised, in terms of sales, the LP didn’t live up to the record label’s expectations and sold less than 5.000 copies. Ivone, on the other hand, was not shaken by it because she knew that her main source of income was the live shows. And for her satisfaction, the concert schedule was full.
Aside from the shows in Rio, Dona Ivone had her first business trip to the United States at the invitation of a group of Brazilians living in Chicago. And since it was February, the month of Carnaval, she embarked on her show with the suitcase almost entirely occupied by the Bahian costume she had paraded the year before. Her show was a huge success, and she spent the rest of her time visiting New York and Miami.
Back in Brazil, she did one of the most remarkable shows of that tour called Mestre Silas Pede Passagem, in memory of the ten years of Silas de Oliveira's death. In the show, which included guest appearances of Clementina de Jesus, Roberto Ribeiro, Abilio Martins and João Nogueira, Ivone sang classics from the repertoire of the poet, such as "Meu drama" and "Amor aventureiro". Despite having her time almost totally occupied by the shows, Dona Ivone had some unpublished compositions in mind that would be part of her fourth album.
With André Midani as director and Rildo Hora as a producer, the album Alegria, Minha Gente (Serra dos Meus Sonhos Dourados) began to be recorded later that year. Informally, and with a recorder turned on, Rildo and Ivone met to discuss the album's repertoire. In the first conversations, Rildo realized that she drew in the memory an endless amount of beautiful songs from the time of her youth. Experienced and accurate, the producer showed that was the basis of the new album by Dona Ivone Lara.
In addition to honoring those very important composers that were part of her informal musical education, Ivone also recorded two sambas of her own, composed during her carer at Prazer da Serrinha, "Me abandonaste" and "Meu destino é sofrer". But the album's masterpiece could not be from any other partnership but Ivone and Delcio Carvalho with “Nasci para sonhar e cantar”.
Released in August 1982, the new album was very well received by the critics. The publicity work would be intense and would take Ivone to a series of concerts all over the country, including unconventional places such as a penitentiary in Rio de Janeiro. Extremely professional, she used not to choose the places where she would sing, but she insisted on taking part in the political rally of the candidate Miro Teixeira.
In addition to the shows, Ivone also participated in other albums including A Toda Hora Rola uma Estória by Paulinho da Viola with the song "Não é assim". And the children's album, Pirlimpimpim, which was a TV Globo special in homage to the centenary of the writer Monteiro Lobato with "Festa animada". The music, of simple lyrics and melody, far below the quality of Dona Ivone's usual repertoire, would reach the audience on a physical format the following year, but in a very different context.

O ano de 1982 teve início com uma constatação não muito feliz para Ivone. Apesar de Sorriso Negro ter sido bastante elogiado, em termos de vendas, o LP contrariou as expectativas da gravadora e não passou dos cinco mil compradores. Ivone, por outro lado, não se abalou pois sabia que a maior parte de sua renda vinha dos shows. E para sua alegria, a agenda estava sempre lotada.
Além de shows no Rio, Dona Ivone faria sua primeira viagem aos Estados Unidos a convite de um grupo de brasileiros radicados em Chicago. E como era fevereiro, época de carnaval, ela embarcou para seu show com a mala quase que inteiramente ocupada pela fantasia de baiana que desfilara no ano anterior. Sua apresentação foi um sucesso e, aclamada, Ivone seguiu a passeio para Nova York e Miami.
De volta ao Brasil, ela fez um dos shows mais marcantes daquela turnê chamado Mestre Silas Pede Passagem, em lembrança dos dez anos da morte de Silas de Oliveira. No espetáculo, que contou com as presenças de Clementina de Jesus, Roberto Ribeiro, Abilio Martins e João Nogueira, Ivone cantou clássicos do repertório do poeta imperiano, como “Meu Drama” e “Amor Aventureiro”. Apesar de estar ocupada quase que totalmente pelos shows, Dona Ivone já tinha composições inéditas guardadas no baú que iriam fazer parte do seu quarto álbum.
Com André Midani como diretor e Rildo Hora como produtor, o álbum Alegria, Minha Gente (Serra dos Meus Sonhos Dourados) começara a ser gravado ainda aquele ano. De maneira informal, e com um gravador ligado, Rildo e Ivone se encontravam para discutir o repertório do álbum. Nas primeiras conversas, Rildo percebeu que ela puxava pela memória uma quantidade sem fim de lindas canções da época de sua juventude. Experiente e atinado, o produtor sacou que ali estava a base do novo disco de Dona Ivone Lara.
Além de homenagear aqueles compositores importantíssimos em sua informal formação musical, Ivone também gravou dois sambas de sua autoria, feitos nos tempos da Prazer da Serrinha, “Me abandonaste” e “Meu destino é sofrer”. Mas a obra-prima do álbum não podia deixar de ser uma parceira de Ivon e Delcio Carvalho, “Nasci para sonhar e cantar”.
Lançado em agosto de 1982, o novo álbum foi muito bem recebido pela crítica. O trabalho de divulgação seria intenso e levaria Ivone a uma série de shows por todo o país, incluindo lugares não convencionais como, por exemplo, um presídio no Rio de Janeiro. Extremamente profissional, ela não escolhia os lugares onde iria cantar. Mas fez questão de participar no comício político do candidato Miro Teixeira.
Além dos shows, Ivone também participou em outros álbum como: A Toda Hora Rola uma Estória de Paulinho da Viola com a música “Não é assim”. E o álbum infantil Pirlimpimpim que foi um especial da TV Globo em homenagem ao centenário do escritor Monteiro Lobato com “Festa animada”. A música, de letra e melodia simplórias, muito abaixo da qualidade do habitual repertório de Dona Ivone, chegaria ao público em disco no ano seguinte, mas em outro contexto, bem diferente, por sinal.
